Chairperson Ken O'Flynn TD Criticizes Government's Decision to Exclude Cost-of-Living Measures in Upcoming Budget

As Taoiseach Micheál Martin made comments confirming that No cost-of-living measures or energy credits in next Budget despite the fact that More than 400,000 electricity and gas users are in arrears with their suppliers, Chairperson Ken O'Flynn TD Criticizes Government's Decision to Exclude Cost-of-Living Measures in Upcoming Budget

Independent Ireland Chairperson Ken O'Flynn TD has expressed concern over the Government's recent announcement that the forthcoming budget will not include any new cost-of-living measures or energy credits.

"It is abundantly clear that the giveaway budget we saw in November was akin to buying votes," stated Deputy O'Flynn.

"Hundreds of thousands of households in arrears on their electricity bills, what are these families supposed to do? It is more than a coincidence that pre-election the Government were able to muster up supports for struggling families and now the rug has been pulled and people have to again face another winter struggling to make ends meet.

It's quite clearly and example of we're back in power now so thanks for your votes and good luck"

Recent data indicates that as of July, 271,338 customers were behind on their electricity payments, marking the highest number in recent times.

Deputy O'Flynn emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that many families are grappling with financial hardships exacerbated by rising energy costs.

He called on the Government to reconsider its stance and implement measures that provide tangible relief to those most affected.

"The likely absence of support in the upcoming budget is not just a policy oversight; it's a failure of empathy towards our citizens who are struggling to make ends meet," he added.
