His work with the Irish Central Border Area Network, collaborating with political parties in Northern Ireland to build relationships for a new Ireland, stands out as a key achievement."
Collins further highlighted Cllr. Clarke’s contributions on Sligo County Council's Environmental and Infrastructural SPC, where he played a pivotal role in delivering major projects such as the N4, Western Distributor Road, and the Eastern Link Bridge.
"Michael is committed to furthering vital infrastructure projects, including the N17, N16, and N59 upgrades, and reopening the Sligo to Claremorris Rail Line. He was also part of initial delegations with Arlene Foster to advance the Collooney to Enniskillen Greenway, advocating for cycling lanes to be integrated into all new and existing roads," Collins added.
Richard O'Donoghue TD, General Secretary of Independent Ireland, welcomed the candidacy, praising Cllr. Clarke's work ethic:
"We are delighted that Michael has joined team Independent Ireland, He has vast experience in agriculture, running a beef and sheep farm on the slopes of the Ox Mountains and exporting livestock across Europe, he knows first hand the challenges the agricultural sector faces and we know how hard he will work for the farming community of the Northwest"
Chairman Cllr Ken O'Flynn pointed out Clarke’s extensive experience in the housing sector, where he has been instrumental in delivering 200 houses in Sligo in 2023 alone.
"Michael’s hands-on experience with housing, construction, and development planning make him the candidate North West needs. He delivers results without fanfare—his work speaks for itself."
"Michael has a proven track record in addressing rural issues such as planning, keeping young people in farming, mental health, and elder care. His longstanding experience in farming, business, community affairs, and politics will serve the people of Sligo-Leitrim and South Donegal well. I look forward to working with him throughout this campaign."
