Cllr John Cassin

Cllr John Cassin was re-elected to Carlow County Council in 2024 and has over 15 years of service to his community since first elected to Carlow town council in 2009. John grew up on Tullow Road in Dereen Heights, Carlow Town, is a proud parent of three children and a graduate of Carlow College with a degree in Applied Social Studies. With a solid background in social care and community service, John has been a dynamic advocate for local issues since his first election to Carlow Town Council in 2009.

Michael Collins TD, leader of Independent Ireland, fully supported Mr Cassin's re-election: “John Cassin has been a formidable force in Carlow, dedicated to addressing critical issues such as housing, healthcare, and education. His continued efforts to regenerate Carlow Town and improve local infrastructure exemplify the commitment that our party champions.”

John Cassin shared his commitment to continue his work, stating: “It has been an honour to serve the people of Carlow Town, and I am eager to continue my efforts to improve our community. My focus remains on making Carlow a better place for all, ensuring accessible public services, and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

John’s key priorities include addressing the housing shortage and high rents, pushing for the regeneration of Carlow Town, expanding the local bus service, enhancing local health services, and improving educational support for children with additional needs. He believes a councillor’s role is to work closely with voluntary groups and state organisations to drive progress.
