Cllr Fergus McDonnell has served the people of his community for decades, his dedication to community work, his knowledge of politics combined with his authenticity and passion saw him elected on the first count in the 2024 Offaly Co. Council Elections.

Fergus is a champion of community development. With a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to serving others, McDonnell brings a formidable array of skills and a passion for positive change to the political arena.

McDonnell's journey is one deeply intertwined with community service and grassroots advocacy. As a devoted husband, father of four adult children, and proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, he understands firsthand the importance of building a better future for generations to come.

Throughout his career, McDonnell has worn many hats, each reflecting his unwavering dedication to community well-being. From his role as a part-time school transport driver to his tenure as a director and manager of North Offaly Community Development Network in Daingean, McDonnell has consistently worked to provide essential services and support to older people in his community. His 18-year stint as a home carer speaks volumes about his commitment to those in need.

His extensive public service record includes serving as a former member of Edenderry Town Council from 1985 to 2014, during which he held the position of Chairman on multiple occasions. McDonnell also served on Offaly County Council and the Midland Regional Authority from 2004 to 2009 and chaired the Edenderry Joint Policing Committee from 2009 to 2014.
