Councillor Declan Geraghty Selected as Independent Ireland’s Candidate for Galway East

Independent Ireland is proud to announce that Councillor Declan Geraghty has been selected as the party’s candidate for Galway East in the upcoming general election. A Williamstown native and local business owner, Geraghty brings a wealth of knowledge about Galway East and a deep commitment to addressing the issues that matter most to his community.

Geraghty’s dedication to public service began with his election to Galway County Council in 2019, and he was re-elected on the first count in June 2024 with an impressive 2,262 first-preference votes, amounting to 18.19% of the total poll. Recently appointed Cathaoirleach of the Ballinasloe Municipal District, Geraghty has proven himself as a leader who listens and advocates for his constituents.

Declan’s work goes beyond politics; he is a devoted family man with a thriving local business. Since 2005, he and his business partner, Michael Donnellan, have operated DG Roofing, a roofing retail venture based in Williamstown, which currently employs 22 people. His dedication to his community is reflected in his work on the Joint Policing Committee, where he has focused on tackling issues surrounding drugs and rural crime. Housing, infrastructure, and youth engagement are also at the forefront of his platform, and he is passionate about ensuring all residents have safe, secure housing and reliable roads.
