Aligning with Independent Ireland, Mr Punch has reiterated his commitment to addressing not just agricultural challenges but broader regional and social issues affecting his constituency: “Joining Independent Ireland is a crucial step in strengthening our collective voice in Brussels, ensuring our diverse needs are addressed effectively.”

Michael Collins TD, Party Leader of Independent Ireland, warmly welcomed Mr Punch to the party: "We are delighted to have Eddie on board. His extensive experience and profound understanding of both local and European issues are exactly what Ireland South needs for effective representation in the European Parliament."

Richard O’Donoghue TD for Limerick County and General Secretary of Independent Ireland also expressed his support: "Eddie’s candidacy is a significant addition to our party’s ticket. His advocacy and commitment to regional development align perfectly with our objectives."

Adding a personal note, Michael Fitzmaurice TD from the Roscommon-Galway constituency, and a long-time acquaintance of Mr Punch, said: "Eddie has always been a champion for the rural community, from farmers and fishermen to local shop-keepers and teachers. His candidacy ensures a comprehensive representation for everyone in Ireland South, weaving the entire social fabric into the heart of our European engagement."

As the election approaches, Eddie Punch and Independent Ireland are committed to ensuring that the diverse voices of Ireland South are heard and represented effectively in the European Parliament.

Continuing his words of support for the Party’s latest big European Election candidate coup, Michael Collins TD said: “In Eddie Punch, our party is offering the people of Ireland South an opportunity to vote for a candidate with a deep knowledge of Brussels. His first-hand expertise in negotiating with both the European Commission and parliamentarians on behalf of our farming and rural communities makes him a uniquely informed candidate in this election.”

Deputy Collins further highlighted Mr Punch’s capacity for cooperation and effective representation: “Ireland needs knowledgeable representation in the European Parliament and someone who understands the need for cooperation to get things done. Eddie Punch has a demonstrated track record in working with representatives and stakeholders at both local and international levels. His experience will prove a vital asset for Independent Ireland as we seek to deliver better representation for Ireland’s interests in Brussels.”

Mr Punch, who left his role at ICSA to contest the election on June 7th, shared his vision for Independent Ireland: “We want to provide a voice for communities which have been forgotten about by decision makers both in Dublin and in Brussels. Many of the people I have spoken to since I began campaigning feel let down by the political status quo.”
